The first phase of the MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang line is expected to be completed and operational by the end of this year.

National Key Economic Areas (Greater Kuala Lumpur) director Ziad Hafiz Abd Razak said the stretch from Sungai Buloh to Semantan is expected to be finished this year while two other MRT lines are in the pipeline.

“The full line is a 51km stretch with 31 stations and will be completed in the second or third quarter of next year.

“As for the upcoming second line from Sg Buloh to Putrajaya via Serdang, that will be 56.2km with 36 stations and we are expecting 529,000 people to use it daily.

“The third line will be a circle line which we will focus on once the first line is completed,” he said during the ‘Session with Pemandu on Infrastructure’ talk at Menara MIDF, Kuala Lumpur.

Along with the MRT, Ziad added that the Greater Kuala Lumpur initiative would improve public transportation by increasing the current capacity.

“In 1985, only 35% of KL folk took public transport and this figure declined by another 10% in 2010.

“Our aim is to bring up the user intake to 40% by 2020,” he said.
